Decor That Shows Up, Does Its Job, and Disappears- Evrgreen

Evrgreen was born out of a simple but brilliant insight: seasonal decorating brings joy, but everything around it doesn’t. The shopping, the storage, the annual unpacking of boxes that take up half the garage, and the eventual disposal of décor that’s gone out of style. Evrgreen eliminates all of it.

The concept is elegantly simple: customers choose a curated décor box Small (5 items, from $59), Medium (8 items, from $89), or Large (12 items, from $109) select their seasonal theme, and have it delivered straight to their door. When the season ends, they return it. Rent, Rejoice, Repeat.

Evrgreen’s seasonal catalogue spans Halloween, Christmas, 4th of July, New Year, Fall and Thanksgiving, and Summer with curated event collections, a fully custom Build-Your-Box flow, monthly subscription options, 20-day and 40-day rental durations, short-term rental solutions for events, and B2B services for businesses that want their spaces seasonally styled without the overhead.

It’s a genuinely innovative business model and one that Shopify, out of the box, was never designed to support. Building a seasonal décor rental platform with a persistent box builder, event-based collections, fixed pricing logic, subscription management, inventory tracking, rental account visibility, and admin lifecycle management required an entirely custom-engineered solution. Dynamic Dreamz built it from the ground up.

Evrgreen had a disruptive idea, a clear audience, and a brand full of warmth and personality. What they needed was a technical foundation sophisticated enough to power a rental and subscription business on a platform that doesn’t natively support either.

Here are the key challenges that Dynamic Dreamz addressed:

• Shopify doesn’t natively support rental models: Shopify is built for standard eCommerce products that are sold, not rented. Building a fully functional rental solution on Shopify required engineering bespoke systems from scratch, with no off-the-shelf solution available.
• Event-based shopping with cross-collection flexibility: Customers needed to shop by event Halloween, Christmas, 4th of July, New Year while also being able to freely mix items from multiple event collections into a single rental box. The standard Shopify collection architecture doesn’t support this kind of cross-collection, persistent-cart behaviour.
• Persistent box state across the entire site: The active box configuration, box type, rental duration, and start and end dates needed to persist across every page of the site until checkout or reset, regardless of which collections or pages the customer visited. This required a custom application layer to manage and maintain.
• Fixed box pricing with dynamic discounting: Evrgreen’s pricing model is fixed per box tier, not per item. No matter which individual products a customer adds to their box, the final total always equals the fixed box price. Engineering dynamic, per-product discounting that automatically adjusts behind the scenes to maintain this fixed total was a significant technical challenge.
• Global pricing transparency throughout the journey: Customers needed to see a persistent, real-time summary of their box price, the total value of added products, and the adjusted final price at all times in the header or a sticky component throughout their entire browsing session.
• Accurate rental inventory tracking: Unlike standard eCommerce where inventory simply depletes on sale, Evrgreen’s rental model requires per-SKU inventory deduction for active rentals and accurate return-date management, a significantly more complex inventory challenge.
• Rental tracking and return visibility in My Account: Customers needed to see their active rental boxes, rental start and end dates, and a clearly highlighted return date directly within their account, reducing late returns and support tickets.
• Subscription management complexity: Evrgreen’s monthly subscription model required a custom-built system capable of handling sign-ups, plan management, tier changes, pauses, cancellations, and renewals, with customers able to select new products each month before the order generates, and a default product fallback for those who don’t.
• One-time vs subscription flexibility: Customers needed the ability to choose between a one-time rental box or a recurring monthly subscription at the point of purchase, with subscription billing applying only to the box price and any extra items charged as separate one-time purchases.
• Custom admin dashboard for full lifecycle control: Managing active rentals, subscription billing cycles, box tier configuration, default product settings, and subscriber status across a growing customer base required a purpose-built admin dashboard that Shopify’s native admin simply couldn’t provide.

Dynamic Dreamz approached the Evrgreen project as a platform engineering challenge, designing and building an entirely custom Shopify application layer that powered every aspect of the rental and subscription experience, alongside a beautifully customised Stretch theme storefront that made it all feel effortless.

Shop by Event Collections

We built dedicated Shopify collections for each of Evrgreen’s seasonal events: Halloween, Christmas, 4th of July, New Year, Fall and Thanksgiving, and Summer surfaced as featured tiles on the homepage for immediate, intuitive discovery. Each event collection supports both individual item rentals and a pre-curated “Buy as Bundle” event box option.

Build-Your-Box Flow

We built a globally accessible Build-Your-Box entry point available in the header, sticky sidebar, and as a floating CTA, giving customers the freedom to start building their rental box from any page on the site. A dedicated Box Options page lets customers select their box type, rental duration (20 or 40 days), and start date, with the end date automatically calculated.

Persistent Box State Across the Site

Once a customer starts building their box, the active configuration box type, rental duration, start and end dates persist across the entire Evrgreen site until checkout or reset. Customers can browse multiple event collections, navigate freely across pages, and continue adding items to the same active box without ever losing their selections.

Fixed Box Pricing with Dynamic Discounting

Evrgreen’s pricing model is fixed per box tier regardless of which items a customer selects; the final checkout total always matches the fixed box price. We engineered a dynamic, per-product discounting system that calculates and applies automatic discounts behind the scenes at the cart and checkout level, so the pricing always adds up correctly no matter what the customer puts in their box.

To keep customers fully informed throughout their browsing and building journey, we implemented a persistent global pricing summary visible in the header or as a sticky component showing the base box price, total value of added products, and the adjusted final box price at all times.

Rental Tracking in My Account

To reduce late returns and improve the post-purchase experience, we built a dedicated rental tracking view within the Evrgreen customer account, giving customers clear visibility of their active rental boxes, rental start and end dates, and a visually highlighted return date on every order detail page.

Orders and Inventory Management

We engineered accurate per-SKU inventory deduction for every rental order, ensuring that Evrgreen’s rental stock levels remain reliable across all concurrent active boxes, with standard Shopify orders created containing both the box product and each individual rental item.

We built a complete custom subscription layer on top of the existing rental flow, giving customers the choice between a one-time rental box or a recurring monthly subscription at the point of purchase. Subscription billing applies to the box price only, with any extra items added as separate one-time purchases.

To give the Evrgreen team complete visibility and control over their rental and subscription business, we built a fully custom admin dashboard, a single command centre for managing every aspect of the subscription lifecycle, event configuration, and product settings.
